Greenwich Magazine: Fall Nesting

I recently had a feature in the Home Section of this month’s issue of Greenwich Magazine.

I recently had a feature in the Home Section of this month’s issue of Greenwich Magazine.  They asked for my thoughts on how to enhance a space for fall, so I shared my ideas on how to add texture and color just for this time of year.  I find myself looking for warmer palettes as the season shifts and like to change details to reflect this.  Many thanks to Greenwich Magazine and Moffly Media for the feature!

AtHome in Fairfield County: French Twist

I am so pleased to share an editorial featuring a recent project in At Home in Fairfield County’s September/October 2015 issue.

I am so pleased to share an editorial featuring a recent project in At Home in Fairfield County‘s September/October 2015 issue.  This editorial features a kitchen I designed for a long time client, someone who’s been with me since I started my career over eight years ago.  The benefit to a long term client relationship is that I’ve already earned their trust.  When we first talked about the kitchen, the client turned to me to say, “This is what we want,” gave me their wish list, and let me have carte blanche.  They were so open to everything I presented that there was very little tweaking between what came out of my head and the final design.  It’s so nice to see what’s possible when you develop a great client rapport over time.  Many thanks to At Home magazine for the feature!

For over a decade, Amy Aidinis Hirsch has been designing elegantly crafted interiors.  Each design begins with a deep understanding of architecture and the history of each site and the ability to listen and understand a client’s needs.  The resulting interiors are always sophisticated and original, and have been featured in magazines including House Beautiful, At Home, and New England Home.

What inspired you to become a designer?Serendipty 2

My father works on high-end residential homes as a plumbing and heating contractor.  As a young girl, I was fortunate to always see the floor plans and walk through impressive and large caliber homes designed by great designers such as Tony Ingrao, Thierry Despont, and David Easton.  At the time they were under construction, but you could see the craftsmanship, reclaimed materials and history within the spaces.  I fell in love immediately with the thought of collaborating and building something from the ground up.

What influences your designs the most?

Fashion is a huge influence.  I love looking ahead at the color forecast an dhow pieces are tailored, and I appreciate the intricate attention to detail in couture pieces.  I love the idea of curating collections.

What’s your design process like?

Honestly, I am a tornado.  I try to bring in as much product as possible — carpets, fabrics, tiles, etc. — that I feel is appropriate for a project and then I begin to edit.  I have to make sure I explore every possible element.  I am constantly hunting, sourcing and reading to find out what is in the industry.

Any particular places you turn for inspiration?

The beach — it’s a safe heaven and peaceful.  It recharges my energy and spirit and allows me to focus on what I am trying to create.

Do you have a design icon?

David Collins, S. R. Gambrel, Jean Louis Denoit, and David Kleinberg — gifted architects and designers who exemplify impeccable taste.

What colors do you love now?

Sultry, saturated colors that have depth and are rich in pigment, like persimmon, ink, plum.  I am interested in integrating unusual colors together in a way that is unexpected and out of the ordinary.

What are three key pieces that every home should have?

Pillows, books, and artwork.

What are your top three design rules?

I honestly do not have rules.  Rules can get tricky and establish a barrier.  As a designer, my best tool is to listen to our clients’ needs and particulars.

What one thing do you always keep in mind?

Scale/proportion:  It’s essential when making selections and pairing furnishings together.

The Winter 2015 issue of CT Builder Magazine recently came out, featuring the winners of the 2014 HOBI Awards.  These awards recognize excellence in a range of categories such as new construction and remodeling.  I was so pleased to see three projects I collaborated on receive HOBI awards, including the 2014 Custom Home of the Year as shown on the magazine cover.  Built by Sound Beach Partners, this incredible residence truly deserves recognition.  The home is a great example of a design that respects the home’s surroundings and makes the most of the stunning location overlooking Long Island Sound.

I am so pleased to have one of my favorite projects featured in the May/June 2015 issue of AtHome in Fairfield County.  I loved working on this one of a kind dining room.  Having a great relationship with a client who let me run with my ideas allowed the dining room to become everything I envisioned.  Pick up a copy of the magazine to read more about the project and each of the beautiful elements in the room.

Year in Review: 2014

This past year has been an incredible journey for me.

This past year has been an incredible journey for me.  I’ve worked with great clients to complete projects that challenged and inspired me, traveled to places I’ll always remember, and been able to enjoy time with my own family.  This time of year, I like to look back at my accomplishments and think of about how my firm has grown and where I want to see it go in the future.  In 2014, I settled in to my new office space and enjoyed having such ideal surroundings to meet with clients or work on projects with my staff.

One of the ways I measure the visibility and direction of my business is by the attention my work receives from various publications.  Over the course of 2014, I was happy to have a presence in several fantastic magazines.  Here’s a recap of our press over the past year!

I was so happy to participate in the 2014 Pink Aid Fashion Show and Luncheon by Connecticut Cottages and Gardens at Mitchells of Westport.  The event, which raises money for the fight against breast cancer, includes an auction of pink chairs and other pink items donated by designers.  I contributed a chair, which you can see in the November 2014 issue of CTC&G, along with all of the other  pink items created by some very talented designers.

New England Home: In a Perfect World

I am so pleased to share with you the current issue of New England Home, which features a recent project of mine.

I am so pleased to share with you the current issue of New England Home, which features a recent project of mine on the cover and in a great editorial.  I worked with Julio DiBiase of Dibico Construction and, as always, he was able to seamlessly execute my vision throughout this 1920’s era Greenwich home.  Taking this home from its original condition to the gem it is today meant overhauling every room down to the studs before designing the ideal space for this young family.  New England Home truly showcases the home well with this editorial, capturing the sophisticated but livable environment we created.

Better Homes and Gardens: Storage

In the Spring 2014 issue of Better Homes and Gardens’ special Storage publication you can see a great mudroom project I completed for one of my clients.

In the Spring 2014 issue of Better Homes and Gardens’ special Storage publication you can see a great mudroom project I completed with Julio DiBiase of Dibico Construction for one of my favorite clients.  This mudroom is a perfect example of how a functional space can be beautiful without sacrificing utility.  This client has a strict no-shoes-in-the-house rule, so incorporating plenty of accessible shoe storage in the mud room was a big priority.  Other storage spaces allow for maximum organization, keeping the mudroom tidy and creating the perfect waystation for the family when coming and going.  Extra closets allow for convenient storage of everything from seasonal outerwear and sports equipment to camping gear and picnic accessories.  Easy to clean surfaces and materials are another key element to this mudroom.  I hope you get a chance to pick up a copy; there are a lots of great storage ideas throughout the issue!
