Eskayel is an innovative Brooklyn, NY based design studio founded by artist and designer Shanan Campanaro. Along with her partner Nick Chacona, Shanan designs print-to-order fabrics and wallcoverings. In addition to their hundreds of colorways and patterns, Eskayel can provide custom designs or adjust one of their patterns to suit your needs. They have a strong focus on sustainability, using eco-friendly materials and practices. Eskayel is a fabulous textile company.
What I find interesting about Eskayel is that they have put a twist on the traditional, like a modern form of tie-dye. It’s very fresh and versatile — the fabric can be applied to anything from pillows to poufs. Eskayel also produces wallcoverings. I love that one pattern can be generated into so many things. You can use this as an accent or an all-over application.
I’m working on a project for a client’s Montana home and am using an Eskayel pattern to cover an accent wall in a bunk room. I’m so excited to use this product in an environment that is expected to be rustic — the scale is so big and blown up. Eskayel also offers more traditional styles for safer, less risky options.

This design scheme came about while I was working with an existing client, brainstorming ideas for their dining room. I wanted to do something glamorous. The adjacent family room and kitchen included a lot of yellow, so for the dining room I decided to insert some brass for a touch of glimmer. The room is somewhat small and intimate, so I wanted to smother it in saffron. I thought of silk walls, saturated drapes, and a pure gradation of the same tone. The light fixture is something I really fell in love with. Because the plan for the walls and window treatments is monochromatic, the rug provides contrast. The resulting scheme has a depth of color reminiscent of summer and happiness.
Floral Prints
I don’t know if it was the long snowy winter or what, but lately I have been drawn to really pretty floral prints.
Floral prints are a high fashion element this year. It’s a look people are receptive to after a long winter. I think this time of year, I am looking for more color and brightness, both of which can be found in flowery fabrics. I know I’m not along in this springtime longing when I see some of the gorgeous floral fashions on the runway.
Floral patterns translate well into interiors. It’s a refreshing look and reminds me that old trends always resurface. It’s nice to see this look come back in a more lively way.
What do you think of floral designs?

One of my favorite parts of the design process is pairing fabrics with furnishings, lighting, and accessories. It’s the most creative part of what we do and the point where everything comes together. This is the strategic part of balancing various elements. Laying out fabric options so I can see how they work together in terms of color and texture is a simple method to narrow down and finalize choices. When I add in other elements, a picture starts to come together and my vision for an interior really takes shape. Here’s a glimpse at this method!
I always start with the colors, and what I love about this combination is that the three colors are so cool together. I would use navy for the rug, grounding the room. The gold/yellow would be on the walls, brightening the space. When the green is added, it just pops — and that particular element doesn’t work without the grounding aspect of the navy. Together, they just work so well.

Maharam Fabrics began as a theatrical textile production company and evolved through the decades to become a source of high quality fabrics. Maharam makes a good choice for both commercial and residential areas. The product is thoughtful of use and doesn’t look contracted.
I am a huge fan of Maharam’s wool fabrics, especially the wool with embroidery. When I design, I go for quality over quantity, and Maharam exhibits superb quality. The fabric has a great weight, with quiet and simple designs that aren’t too heavy or traditional. I love the palette and stitching. It’s really well executed.
The durability of Maharam’s wool products make it a good option for families with kids. The solids are available in every spectrum of the rainbow. In addition to being user-friendly and practically indestructible, Maharam fabrics are reliably in stock, making it a fantastic go-to product.
Maharam also produces these digital projects for large-scale wall installations. Something like this takes just the right client, but I can’t wait to use this giraffe print! It’s so unique, charming, and sweet!
